Cookie Policy
Version 1.0 · Effective 9 September 2026
1. About this policy
Nied Fitness ("we", "us") is a web app for fitness tracking, planning and analysis. This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies we use on our website and in the web app, and how you can control them.
Nied Fitness is a web product. There is no Nied Fitness mobile app today, so everything below concerns your browser.
Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with personal information generally, including the technical and usage data that some of these technologies help us collect. Our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy covers health-related information. No cookie we set carries your health or fitness data. Your browser does hold your active workout while you are training, and section 5 says exactly what that is and how long it stays.
2. What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. When you come back, your browser sends it again, which is how a site can recognise your session and remember what you set.
"Similar technologies" covers a few other things that work in comparable ways:
- •Local storage and session storage — small amounts of data your browser holds for a site, used much like cookies but not sent with every request. Local storage stays until something clears it; session storage disappears when you close the tab.
- •Pixels and tags — tiny images or scripts on a page that record that the page loaded. We do not use these for advertising; see section 3.
Where this policy says "cookies", it means all of the above. Section 5 lists the cookies and the browser storage separately, because the difference matters when you go to clear them.
Cookies can be first-party (set by us, from our domain) or third-party (set by another company whose code runs on our pages). They can be session cookies, which disappear when you close your browser, or persistent cookies, which last for a set period.
3. We use no advertising or targeting cookies
We do not use advertising cookies, targeting cookies, retargeting pixels, conversion trackers or advertising SDKs. Not from us, not from anyone else. There are none on our site and none in the app.
There is no advertising in Nied Fitness, we do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
We also do not use cookies to build a profile of you across other websites, and we do not participate in any advertising network or data exchange.
4. The categories we use
We use three categories and no others.
4.1 Strictly necessary. These make the service work and cannot be switched off in our product without breaking it. They cover:
- •Session and authentication — keeping you signed in as you move between pages, and signing you out when your session ends.
- •Virtual Coach continuity — remembering which Virtual Coach conversation your next message continues, so a reopened panel picks up where you left off.
We set these on the basis that you cannot use an account-based product without them. They carry no advertising function.
4.2 Functional. One preference is a cookie: whether you chose the light or the dark theme. Two more are held in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie — that you have dismissed the cookie notice, and your display density. They are a convenience. Clear them and the product forgets those choices and falls back to defaults.
Your units of measurement are not a cookie at all. They are part of your profile, stored on our servers, and they follow your account to any browser you sign in from.
4.3 Analytics. These help us understand how the product is used in aggregate — which features get used, and where errors happen — so we can fix faults and improve the product. Usage analytics and error reporting are the same vendor, PostHog, loaded once. We also use Vercel's own web analytics, which measures page traffic and sets nothing in your browser at all — which is why it appears nowhere in the tables below. We use analytics to improve Nied Fitness, not to target you and not to share with anyone for their own purposes.
5. The cookies and browser storage we use
These are the cookies the web app sets. Nothing else is set.
The app also uses your browser's local and session storage. These are not cookies — they are never sent to our servers with a request — but section 2 promises this policy covers them, so here they are.
On a shared computer. Your active workout is held in your browser's local storage so a refresh does not lose it. Signing out clears it, along with the other things we have cached about your account in that browser. Some entries stay until you clear the site's data: your theme, your display density, the fact that you dismissed the cookie notice, and the sync marker. None of them holds your training data — but if you are on a computer other people use, clearing the site's data is the thorough way to leave.
6. How to control cookies
6.1 Your browser. Every major browser lets you see the cookies a site has set, delete them, block cookies from particular sites, and block third-party cookies generally. The same settings clear local and session storage. The controls sit in your browser's settings, usually under privacy or site data. Your browser's own help pages give the current steps for your version — we would rather point you there than print instructions that go out of date.
Blocking or deleting strictly necessary cookies will sign you out and may stop the app working. That is not a penalty; the session cookie is what tells our servers the request is yours.
6.2 In the product. There is no cookie preference centre, and there is no way inside Nied Fitness to decline a cookie. The notice you see on your first visit has a single Accept button. All it does is record that you dismissed it, so it stops appearing. Accepting it does not turn anything on, and ignoring it does not turn anything off — the cookies in section 5 are set either way. Your browser's controls, in section 6.1, are the only way to refuse them.
6.3 Deleting your data. Controlling cookies is not the same as deleting your account data. Your Data explains how to delete your account, and the Privacy Policy covers your other choices.
7. What happens if you block non-essential cookies
If you block the theme cookie and the analytics cookie in your browser, the core of Nied Fitness still works. You can sign in, log workouts, record body metrics, set goals, use the Virtual Coach, and see your history and analysis.
What changes is small: the product may forget your theme between visits, and we see less about how features are used. Nothing about your account, your subscription or the features you get depends on which cookies you allow.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy — most likely to add or remove a cookie as the product changes. When we do, we will change the version and date at the top and post the updated policy on our website. Earlier versions stay readable here at their own address. If we ever adopted a new category of technology, this policy would say so before it went live.
